JACKFRUIT FACTS

Jackfruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world. The word Jackfruit comes from Portuguese 'Jaca'. The Malayalam language term 'Chakka' derived from 'Jaca'. And the common English name 'Jackfruit' was used by physician and naturalist 'Garcia de Orta' in his book (1563). Centuries later, botanist 'Ralph Randles Stewart' suggested it was named after 'William Jack' (A Scottish botanist who worked for the East India Company in Bengal).

Jackfruit is a good source of nutrients. And some are, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Calcium, Potassium, Iron, Sodium, Zinc and Niacin, among many other nutrients.

  • The Origin of Jackfruit is between the Western Ghats of Southern India, all of Sri Lanka and the rainforests of the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia.

  • In India, Jackfruit is the state fruit of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
